Tropas: passionate shoe designer

Caro Peirs launched her first shoe collection with her brand Tropas in spring 2019 using discarded jeans. From each pair of jeans she makes two or three pairs of shoes. Each pair of jeans is different and also has different shades, giving each pair of shoes a unique look’n feel.

She is a dedicated social worker and a passionate shoe designer. She combines the best of both worlds in a shoe brand called Tropas, with which she wants to make the world a more stylish, social and sustainable place. You could call her persistent in her pursuit of these values.

Caro is participating in the TOP-atelier with her TROPAS shoes.

  • Design phase: The design was born out of the circular idea that each shoe must be capable of being dismantled. The inspiration came from the material at the end of its life: Tropas chose denim, a material that is widely available.
  • Choice of material: Tropas chose denim because it is flexible, timeless and easy to combine.
  • Influence of the technical-material criteria on the design: The raw material must be solid and flexible in order to be able to shape it for the shoe.
  • Influence of the “circular design” methodology: Tropas designs from waste (end-of-life materials) and creates timeless designs.
