La Gadoue: passionate craftswomen

La Gadoue is the work of two designers, Eloïse Maës & Audrey Werthle, who share a common vision and have joined forces in a design and production studio in Anderlecht. They design collections of ceramic bowls and objects and create customised textiles for interiors.

La Gadoue participates in the TOP-atelier with men’s shirts that they rework into curtains by cutting the shirt fabric and merging the colours into a subtle geometric composition.

  • Design phase: The inspiration came from the selected shirts, the material at the end of its life: the different colours, materials, degree of transparency, shapes gave their ideas. La Gadoue tried to be as creative as possible with the available textile.
  • Choice of material: La Gadoue collected men’s shirts in solid colours (all colours), different sizes and materials.
  • Influence of material criteria on the design: The average size of the shirts determines the size of the rectangles in the designs that form the basis for the composition of a curtain. Other rectangles were made for smaller shirts.
  • Influence of the ‘circular design’ methodology: La Gadoue works with end-of-life materials through TOP-atelier and considers both the material itself and the client’s needs.
