Performance appraisal on Open Atelier of Onbetaalbaal vzw in Ghent.

Last weekend on Saturday 3rd & SUNDAY 4TH of October the topic of upcycling of various textile residue stream & design them into the high-quality shoe, women’s clothing & interior design was in full display.

Designer of Tropas, La Gadoue, Triptiek & Studio AMA showcased their creative and innovative designs.

Despite the delay of the project due to the on-going pandemic, the designers were very enthusiastic and determined. They received lots of people who were keen on understanding how sustainable their products were and amused by their inventiveness.

Starting from Studio AMA, the ready-to-wear clothes and accessories like bags were very agile and artful. The founder Soraya Wancour’s collection is not only sustainable but she sought the most ethical way of working by hiring social workers.

Triptiek which consists of designer duo Veerle Tygat and Sophie De Somere displayed their interior designs with remarkable skill and dexterity, and for their readiness of resources from discarded materials. Their experiment with natural dyes and knitting and knotting techniques manifested into unique patterns and textures.

La Gadoue is the work of two designers, Eloïse Maës & Audrey Werthle who exhibited their designs made from tailor-made men’s shirts which they rework into curtains by cutting the fabric of the shirt and combine the colors in a customized geometric composition. Their collection brought a lovely and lightsome color inside the event hall as it was placed in the entrance with huge windows.

Tropas is the work of Caro Peirs who is a passionate shoe designer and dedicated social worker. She showed off her fresh and stylish open-toe clogs and sneakers with distinctive colors made from discarded jeans which give each pair of shoes a unique look & feel.

The designers received wonderful feedbacks and good sales during the event. They were in conversations with the clients & future partners about the importance of the circular economy and how their products are embedded in creating a sustainable journey of textile waste residue. All the products displayed during the event were made from reclaimed materials by re-shaping them into the latest designs. Hence, during the event, the designers were able to demonstrate their visionary work with a conscious understanding of the environment and importance of circular economy. A huge congratulations to the designers for their relentless effort and work from Team Top-atelier.

Engagement with the clients, during the event.
